Specialist (NGOs and Charities)

Kirat Kalyan

Working in the field of mental health, it quickly became apparent how the pressure of an increasingly demanding work culture was impacting the wellbeing of society. Personally, I felt completely burnt out in my late 20s from pressure, stress and ‘politics at the office’, which city life brings. The lack of balance I experienced stimulated the need to develop a nourishing life balance to protect my mental health and wellbeing.

In the pursuit of a more wholesome life balance I founded Justice Wellbeing consultancy. I am now a qualified Mental Health First Aid trainer who specialises in the design and facilitation of training around mental health, trauma, and conflict. I am currently delivering online training on the complexities of COVID 19 and the Black Lives Matter movement on trauma and mental health.

My career is focused on working with people in the justice system. In 2015, I developed and led the continuing peer mentoring programme in HMP Brixton, which established masculinity, identity, and mental health support through peer engagement.

I graduated with an MSc in Criminal Justice Policy from LSE. I blend my theoretical research with compelling experiences. I have over a decade of academic and professional experience and have developed my expertise by working in NGOs and charities throughout the UK, Ghana, Thailand, Mexico, Kenya, and Uganda.

I continue to deliver training for a wide range of organisations including, Leap Confronting Conflict, YoungMinds, Mind, Mosaic, and I have produced guidance for the Criminal Justice Alliance on stop and search.

I am playful, adventurous and spiritual, with lots of joy to give. Most importantly, I am enjoying sharing my beautiful journey and pleasures of life balance.
